Loewe Gets Surreal With PHotoESPAÑA
Heading to Madrid this summer? Make it a point to stop by PHotoESPAÑA, Spain’s international festival of photography and visual arts as Loewe is staging an exhibit. Titled PHotoESPAÑA Exhibition: Surrealist Centennial, it’s pegged to the centennial of André Breton’s Surrealist Manifesto — a fitting theme for a brand that prides itself on quirky, art-inspired designs. The exhibit includes 24 artists from across Europe, the Americas, and Asia and charts the evolution of surrealism as it emerged from World War I and Freudian psychology. Curated by María Millán, noteworthy pieces include an image from Kati Horna’s Ode to Necrophilia series, Horst P. Horst’s Robert Wilson on Paul Walter Chair, and Francesca Woodman’s otherworldly photos of women. Also in the mix are photographers who are less associated with the Surrealist canon but still had approaches that would qualify them as such like André Kertész and Edward Weston. Worth noting is a section devoted to the International Exhibition of Surrealism that took place in Mexico City in 1940, with pieces by Mexican artists like Lola Álvarez Bravo, Maria Garcia, and Graciela Iturbide. Catch it before it ends on September 14th.

Louboutin Walks a Mile With Idris and Sabrina Elba
For the third edition of their Walk a Mile in My Shoes collection Christian Louboutin is collaborating. The initiative, created in response to 2020 reflects a commitment to anti-racism. WAMIMS has raised $2 million and counting with 100% of profits going towards six charities that work towards social equality and young people’s creative interests across the U.S., U.K., France, and Africa. Specifically for the U.S., the non-profit is The Gathering for Justice, an organization whose goal is to end child incarceration while trying to get rid of the racial inequalities that run through the justice system. Inspired by African culture, this collection will have braided elements from bags to shoes, as a nod to the way it has been used traditionally to express one’s personality. You’ll also see pops of color with the WAMIMS acronym. Interested in getting a pair? Saks will be the exclusive retail partner with the pieces available at select stores as well as online.
La DoubleJ and Orlebar Brown Team Up on a Swimwear Collection
Just in time for beach season comes a festive capsule courtesy of La DoubleJ and British swimwear brand Orlebar Brown. The two brands came together after J.J. Called the Raise Your Vacation Vibration collection, the 34 pieces feature a mix of swimwear and ready-to-wear pieces. Naturally, prints abound with three distinct patterns in a red, white, and blue palette. Dragonflower is a reimagining of a La DoubleJ style while Morpheus is an ode to the god of dreams. 3.1 Phillip Lim Celebrates Pride
It’s been 20 years for 3.1 Phillip Lim, which is a massive accomplishment for any small brand. While technically the celebration will be this September during New York Fashion Week, they’ve decided to kick things off early and celebrate pride with a campaign titled Love, Together. Shot and styled by Rasaan Wyzard at the William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn, the film and polaroid images capture real-life couple, model Tonoia Wade and stylist Alijahni Mack in intimate moments. Clad in spring and pre-fall pieces, the two highlight an authentic romance and vulnerability that defines their relationship. “The slow burn aspect of our relationship is something that is most special. We spent months hanging out daily and coming together to just sleep at night before ever being intimate. We had a very genuine friends-to-lovers storyline,” the two said via the press release.

Coach Celebrates the Power of Gen-Z With Dream Day
When it comes to catering to Gen-Z, Coach is putting their money where their mouth is. Five years ago they started the Coach Foundation, with the goal of providing scholarships and mentorship to historically underrepresented youth. As a part of this work, they have the Dream It Real Initiative which is in partnership with Coachtopia. The program culminates in Dream Day, a day filled with talks, workshops, and other activities geared towards supporting the next generation’s drive to create a more sustainable future. Their latest one was held earlier in the week and featured 200 attendees, with the majority being Dream It Real scholars who get four-year scholarships and are matched with a Coach employee mentor throughout their college experience. Also in attendance were members of the Coachtopia Beta Community including climate activists, design collaborators, and content creators who led discussions as a part of the programming. Panels ranged from a screening of Asail: Power of the Pollinators, a short film by activist Maya Penn to another on the Coachtopia Catalyst Fund, an initiative supporting Gen-Z-led environmental non-profits. Attendees also had a chance to connect over interactive panels on topics like driving change, launching your own venture, and confidently building a digital voice and community. The Coach Foundation also launched a new scholarship venture in collaboration with Millennium Campus Network: The Dream It Real x Coachtopia Scholars program which is designed to support undergraduate leaders from underrepresented communities who are focused on sustainability.
