Ezra Petronio’s New Book Is A Testament To His Indelible Imprint on Fashion

Ezra Petronio is a man of many talents. Speaking on his newly released monograph, Ezra Petronio – Visual Thinking & Image Making, he posits that the key to great image-making is “embracing the idea that the finality is the sum of many parts,” and it’s a mantra that has clearly stood him in good stead. Featuring over 1,000 images, the Phaidon-published book is an extensive survey of Petronio’s most recognisable works. 

It covers collaborations with design heavyweights such as Miuccia Prada, Rei Kawakubo and Karl Lagerfeld as well as campaigns for some of the top houses in the world, from Gucci to Chanel to Louis Vuitton. Accompanying the stellar imagery is a series of interviews and commentaries from some of the most influential industry names, including Jefferson Hack, David Sims, Mark Jacobs, and Chloë Sevigny. If that’s not enough, the hardback also incorporates the New York-born creative’s iconic Polaroid series, documenting famous faces such as Kylian Mbappé, Kylie Minogue and Kim Kardashian. Dubbed one of the world’s most influential art directors, the publication also maps the evolution of his creativity since the 1990s, highlighting Petronio’s distinct influence on pushing for increased creative collaboration and championing the aesthetic space between elegance and edge. Founding multi-disciplinary agency Petronio Associates in 1993, as well as cult magazine Self Service in 1994 – where he still holds the position of creative director and editor-in-chief – the polymath has left an unmissable imprint on the contemporary creative landscape.
