WHAT A WORLD
Creative director Matthieu Blazy’s models are nothing if not intrepid. At Bottega Veneta’s spring/summer show they traversed a cartographic runway, stepping over continents and oceans dressed in muted pinks, cherry reds, and turquoise blues as if they were catwalking conquerors. The clever medley of fabrics and silhouettes included fringed leather frocks, raffia knit dresses with oversized pom-poms, and floor-length tinsel gowns. These luxurious pieces, high in value and concept, felt distinctly relaxed in Blazy’s capable hands. A prim collared shirt and flared skirt cut in an all-American A-line silhouette sat perfectly alongside the organic curves of a graphic sculpted leather shift with flowing tassels. And why not? Change is all around us, and that goes for our wardrobes as well. What Blazy is suggesting is something new, thoughtful, and evolved. It is a world in which bag-toting Bottega boys and girls are taking a fabulous detour en route to their next destination, wherever that may be, and dressing themselves for the wonders of our increasingly intertwined existence.
