Nature Sauvage features butterflies, panthers, crocodiles, and more.
Today Cartier releases Chapter II of the brand’s Nature Sauvage high jewelry collection, a celebration of the wild beauty found in our world. This new venture continues the Maison’s tradition of detailed craftsmanship by creating pieces that blur the line between reality and imagination. Each bauble tells its own story and transports the wearer to a fantastical landscape where animals roam freely and are transformed into intricate art.
Jacqueline Karachi, Director of High Jewelry Creation at Cartier, describes the collection via the press release as a “new perspective on the Cartier animals.” She emphasizes how these pieces play with graphics, volume, and optical illusions thereby bringing a modern twist to their classic timeless motifs. The ability to surprise and delight can be seen in every detail, from the unique depiction of the creatures to the use of materials, all of which create a dynamic relationship between nature and design.
One of the standout pieces in this collection is the Chryseis necklace, inspired by the wings of butterflies, a motif long-loved by Cartier. The onyx-speckled patterns of the butterfly wings are contrasted with chalcedony beads, creating a delicate balance between the monochrome tones and the vibrant 63.76-carat rubellite pendant that anchors the piece. This necklace is a testament to the brand’s ability to fuse tradition with modernity, as it revisits the red-green-black color trio that has become synonymous with the brand.
Equally captivating is the Vamana necklace, where the elephant is reimagined in a blend of abstract styles. The ears, trunk, and emerald eyes emerge from an arrangement of diamonds, forming a graphic mesh that sits on the neck with elegance. This piece not only showcases Cartier’s technical skills but also its ability to infuse each design with a sense of life and movement.
The Panthère Chatoyante necklace, featuring Cartier’s iconic panther, is another highlight of the collection. This feline, with its emerald eyes and black lacquer accents, embodies the power and grace of the animal kingdom. The necklace dazzles with a luxurious array of rubellites, chrysoprases, and emeralds that mimic the panther’s coat, creating a spectacle of color and light.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Sibaya necklace, offering a more abstract take on the natural world, with its design inspired by the scales of a crocodile. The sugar loaf emeralds, chosen for their color and shape, are set against sparkling diamonds that evoke the shimmer of the sea and the movement of a reptile swimming through water. This piece is yet another piece that exemplifies Cartier’s ability to push the boundaries of design, creating jewelry that is as imaginative as it is visually pleasing.
