It’s hard not to get bummed out about a drizzly London summer. Thankfully Feben didn’t let July grey skies get the best of her. Instead of thinking about all the rain we’ve been burdened with recently, she decided to go about a play on words and call her collection Reign; built around the art of using “vulnerability to create strength”. Her muse for the season was Spanish flamenco dancer Antonia Singla, a master of the art form, who was also deaf her entire life. The designer proposed dresses with scooped necklines that flared out from the hips, while also using her signature ruching technique to create off-the-shoulder, body-hugging frocks that demand the attention of the dancefloor.
Coming on the back of last season, when Feben showed in Milan as part of Dolce & Gabbana’s Supported By initiative, she’s continued to broaden her design lexicon to divine effect. Think sculpted overcoats that migrate into car wash-like fringing, through to beaded column dresses lined with yellow feathers, created with Ghanaian artisans. To top it off, guests leaving the venue were treated to bright blue skies and a taste for summer not being quite over yet. It doesn’t get much better than that.
