10 Things You Might Have Missed This Week: In the Fall Mood

Guccicore’s campaign arrives, Chanel and Louis Vuitton look towards ski season, and more.

Feel that chill in the air? Before you know it, ski season will be here and both Chanel and Louis Vuitton are already on it, with campaigns highlighting the dreamiest in slopeside wear. For Chanel, it’s whimsy all the way, down to the penguin shaped bags and polar bear motifs. Meanwhile, it’s all about cozy chalet life meets futurism for Louis Vuitton with a mix of fuzzy shearling and holographic finishes. Should this talk about cold weather be a reminder to switch out your closet and assess your sweaters, Loro Piana has just opened up an atelier project at their Madison Avenue location designed to help care for the knits. And speaking of Madison Avenue and the Upper East Side, Demna’s Guccicore campaign just dropped, a depiction of busy New Yorkers running uptown, downtown, and crosstown clad in the brand’s resort collection.

Read on to learn more and catch up on what else you might have missed.

An NYC Minute With Gucci

Against the backdrop of a busy New York, Gucci’s new GucciCore campaign, photographed by Peter Funch, is a celebration of individuality and collective style. First revealed on the runway in Times Square in May, the collection brings together everyday pieces like peacoats, trench coats, tailored suits, shirts, and pencil skirts. Featuring a cast of characters clad in the pieces rushing across the city, it feels like a slice of life captured through Demna’s keen eye.

Chanel’s Ready for Ski Season

From snowy slopes to fireside chalet dinners, Chanel’s Coco Neige collection is bringing a playful retro spirit to the winter wardrobe. Shot by Julien Martinez Leclerc, the campaign stars Elodie Guipaud, Feng Jiao Long and Lia Marie Mielke in ski suits, statement jackets and colourful tweeds, with shades of red, stripes and the brands signature black, white and beige. Lined mules, soft mittens and chapkas add a cozy finish, while penguin and polar bear motifs bring an element of fun to winter dressing.

Louis Vuitton Hits the Slopes

Speaking of skiing, Louis Vuitton has released their snow collection that moves between technical slope gear and an apres-ski wardrobe worth lingering in. Shearling is everywhere, wrapping everything from the Capucines to the LV Trainer, while cashmere and brushed silk make a persuasive case for staying fireside. The LV Lodge bag takes its cues from traditional French Alpine villages, a chalet in miniature, while icy Monogram Miroir bags revisit Vuitton’s metal trunks of 1891 with a rainbow holographic finish. LV360 goggles, inspired by virtual reality, give the alpine wardrobe a futuristic edge. The slopes are well accounted for, though we’re more invested in what we’ll be wearing for fondue after the last run.

Prada Unpacks the Re-Nylon Backpack in SoHo

Prada’s Re-Nylon backpack takes center stage at the brand’s Soho location, where classic Pergamena trunks climb the store’s zebrawood wave. The scene feels like a traveling wardrobe unpacked across the space, with the architecture turning the contents into something of a spectacle. Since opening at Prince Street and Broadway in 2001, the Broadwat Epicenter has served as a space for experimentation, where the setting is as much a reason to visit as the clothes. Lightweight, utilitarian, and punctuated by Saffiano leather details, the backpacks do what Prada does best: make the everyday worthy of a second look. Re-Nylon leads the presentation, with leather, corduroy, and quilted alternatives also available. On view through November 15.

Get the Atelier Treatment at Loro Piana

Loro Piana is launching its new Atelier project at the brand’s Madison Avenue flagship in New York, an exclusive space celebrating the stories behind its most precious fibres. Divided into three sections, the experience explores the heritage of materials like vicuña, cashmere and baby cashmere, and introduces mending services designed to extend the life of garments. The Atelier is also offering a collection of plant-derived soaps tailored to different fibers, helping preserve their color, softness and texture. Available by appointment only, the intimate space combines oak wood, signature kummel accents and personalized hospitality.

Acne Studios Pays Homage to Hussein Chalayan

Spend time on social media and you’ll notice Hussein Chalayan is having a moment. The avant-garde designer, beloved for his conceptual styles, is teaming up with Acne Studios. Consisting of a 12-pieces that draws upon iconic 2000s collections such as Ventriloquy (2001), Medea (2002) and Manifest Destiny (2003), you’ll find reinterpretations in denim, leather and jersey. From python trompe-l’oeil pants to patchwork designs, the collaboration reflects the similar ethos and creative processes of both brands. Alongside the clothes, you’ll also find a book, “Reference: Hussein Chalayan”, which explores the designer’s unique research methods and includes his archival photographs, illustrations and texts. Both the capsule collection and the book are available online and in selected stores.

Melitta Baumeister and Nike Break the Mold

Nike and Melitta Baumeister are getting their hands dirty. Working with clay as both medium and metaphor, Baumeister approached the athlete and artist as works in progress. The clothes follow suit: a reversible puffer sheds its sleeves and collar, a track jacket comes with a detachable balaclava, and a hidden tote gives all that volume a practical purpose. Underfoot, the split-toe Rift Rocker gets a distressed leather upper and a chunky, sculpted sole, while Baumeister’s “Nose” key ring adds a little anatomical humor. There’s something pleasingly strange about sportswear that takes its cues from the body without clinging to every inch of it. In Black and Yukon Brown, the collection feels earthy, futuristic, and ready for movement.  In honor of the collection, the designer staged an immersive experience in New York City that was an ode to creativity, athleticism, and the power of failure as a driver towards ultimate success. The collaboration launches on November 5 at melittabaumeister.com, with a wider release November 12.

Roger Vivier, to Your Liking

A pair of Roger Viviers designed to your liking, perhaps accompanied by a glass of champagne–what better way to spend an afternoon or celebrate a special occasion? Making its U.S. debut in Saks Fifth Avenue’s Fifth Avenue Club through October 31, Atelier Vivier made-to-order experience opens up a rainbow of materials, colors, buckles, and finishes for its signature shoes and handbags. Satin, suede, patent leather, and colored strass, the hardest part might be knowing when to stop. A silver atelier-inspired cabinet holds the possibilities, while a digital preview lets you indulge your maximalist instincts–or reconsider them. Should you be feeling creative, Monsieur Vivier’s world of invention has room for a few ideas of your own.

Fancy a Fendi Croissant?

Here’s a delicious treat from the mind of Maria Grazia Chiuri: the Fendi Croissant bag, remixed for a new generation. First seen on the brand’s fall 1999 runway, the half moon design was the follow up to the iconic Baguette and so, given the next logical name for its shape (sense a theme here?) Made to be worn tucked under the arm, the newest versions have that same Y2K energy., albeit with a few tweaks in the form of embroidery, fringe, cracked leather, or in the brand’s signature jacquard. Find it in stores now.
