Welcome to the first edition of 10 Magazine USA.

I must admit, it took us a while to get here. What started as a reunion lunch with 10 Mag founder and boss lady Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou in 2021 at The Wolseley in London (our favorite place) turned into an excited conversation about how she should consider launching her beloved magazine in the US.

We delved into countless scenarios, pondered the do’s and don’ts, contemplated the what-ifs and whys, and in the end we arrived at a resounding question: “Why the hell not?” The landscape of media has been changing, but at the core of it, fashion is still the fantasy we all crave. Once the ball got rolling, the idea of dedicating an issue to true fashion followers started forming during the Saturday shows in Paris, where enthusiasts gather to pay homage to their peers by donning cherished creations from the designers showing that day—among them Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe, and Noir Kei Ninomiya. Outside each of these shows, we saw the most magical, grand, and extravagant pieces of art brought to life by their owners—a community where individuality is celebrated, personal style is a plus, and the occasional sacrifice of comfort results in outstanding outfits that mesmerize passers-by and brings joy to us all!

In this issue, Jessica Iredale meets the designers who are bringing joy back to New York Fashion Week—plus we have a special shoot with Raul Lopez of Luar and his community of friends that have kept him inspired during his rapid ascent. I have especially loved corralling all the amazingly well-dressed people whom I find inspiring for this edition of 10. There’s Nordstrom’s Olivia Kim, whose wardrobe is filled with creations from designers who seem more like friends—Comme, Junya, Simone,Thom. I met J.J. Owens on a trip to Colorado and was instantly obsessed with her knowledge of watches. You will be too after reading about her collection and what to invest in. Also, Celia Ellenberg discusses glossy makeup with Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup, while Maura Egan gives usher take on breaks at the most fashionable hotels around the world.

Then front-row staple and fashion writer Alexander Fury throws open the doors to his incredible fashion archive and tells us what his pieces mean to him. Elsewhere, we celebrate the magical world of Dame Vivienne Westwood’s fashion family and the style force that is Stefano Pilati, a famed designer who has become a muse to other designers! (If you have not caught his turn on Pharrell’s debut Vuitton runway, go and check it out.) I have often wondered how the hell fashion people even shop these days, so the wonderful journalist Emilia Petrarca investigated this, and it’s divine and so fun to know to what extent people will go for this sport that we call shopping!

And on a personal note, the making of this issue was not just an exercise in proving what I am capable of. Where does one go when you lose a parent? For me, right here. After I lost my mother, Grace, in 2022, I needed a place where I could get lost, where I could exercise my frustration and annoyance with the world, and where I could laugh, be a bitch, or just be busy and not sit in grief. I will always be grateful to Sophia—my work partner, mentor, and friend—for giving me this opportunity. From the laughter (“Says you!”) to the disagreements (you were not right about that cover, I just needed time to agree!) to the endless calls, texts, memes, and lols, the fun hasn’t stopped—and there is much more to come! Overall, what resonates throughout these pages is that through fashion we form the communities that we build for ourselves. To my community of friends and work family who have helped make this issue possible, the whole 10 USA team, and each and every contributor who said yes and jumped on board, thank you!
