New York-based designer LaQuan Smith used his AW24 offering to showcase the growth and evolution of his eponymous label. Adapting his offering to a wider and more diverse customer base, Smith took his signature, sexy style and gave it an office-infused makeover. Drawing inspiration from the swanky female execs that swanned down Wall Street and then shimmied their way into Studio 54 in the 1980s, the designer’s new approach champions the mantra “work hard, play harder.”
Plunging necklines appeared across silky smooth two-pieces and sharp-collared dresses, whilst thigh-high, snakeskin boots told onlookers that the LaQuan Smith woman means business. Sheer shirts and backs that grazed bum cheeks instilled an unavoidable sultriness, whilst pops of bright red were bold and unapologetic. Tailored wool overcoats reaffirmed Smith’s commitment to the utmost standard of luxury and a metallic gold knit gown once again championed his commitment to taking to the dancefloor. Interspersed with menswear looks championing the same ethos, Smith proved feeling strong, sleek and downright fabulous is more an energy than it is a gender.
