See exactly what it takes to craft a Blahnik heel.
Back in 2021, in honor of their 50 year anniversary, Manolo Blahnik launched a virtual archive, complete with an interactive interface, soundscape, and set which has the appearance of a digital museum. It chronicled the history of Blahnik’s work with his original sketches. Now, the label is introducing a brand new ‘room’, titled ‘The Craft’, to the archive, with eight new vignettes that offer insight into their workshop. Featuring everything from the picking of fabrics to the construction of the shoe, it’s the stuff of Carrie Bradshaw’s dreams.
The interactive concept is a playful, educational take, a friendly offering for shoe lovers to step inside the Blahnik world. Designed by CEO Kristina Blahnik, the archives are a result of passionate work to bring to light what makes Manolo Blahniks, Manolo Blahniks. “Craftsmanship really is and always will be at the heart of everything we do,” she says.
As for the latest addition, the Craft will explore the anatomy of a shoe, including its construction, techniques of the art, and the iconic Blahnik heel accessories. Exclusive images and materials give it a behind-the-curtains feel. The new section also offers insight into the brand’s history, such as the introduction of men’s shoes collections in 2018. Fun fact: Blahnik began his career designing men’s shoes for his closest friends, like David Hockney, David Bailey, and Mick Jagger. Didn’t know that? Now you do.
