At Simone Rocha Wedding Bells Were Ringing

The designer also debuted a Crocs partnership, which went viral on social media.

Overheard as the crowd filtered out of Simone Rocha’s spring 2024 show, a showgoer exclaimed, “I don’t know how she keeps reinventing herself but still stays true to her aesthetic, but that was the best show yet!” They were not wrong, words like “poetic”, “romantic”, and “beautiful” were tossed about as everyone drifted off to their cars. Perhaps those were the only appropriate ways to describe what Rocha showed — an ode to all things nuptial, which was hinted at on the invite courtesy of an upclose image of swirls of buttercream.

Rocha had weddings on her mind, as the show opened up with pink rose adorned dresses, a clever nod to bridesmaid dresses. There were other bridal attendants as well, including what could be interpreted as flower girls and boys, clutching blooms made of silk, taffeta, and beads along with baskets as they walked through the space. On several models delicate bells were attached at the hips, jingling as they walked on by as they were the literal embodiments of wedding bells.

But perhaps what Rocha does best is riff on the themes and codes that she’s already established for her brand. Bows, a common motif, got a new life as models were adorned with giant pearl studded versions trailed behind like trains. Frilly finishes, another Rocha signature, saw new life as the looks towards the middle of the show nodded to wedding cakes, as swirls of buttercream were transformed into trimmings on shirting and dresses alike. The finale gowns, consisting of gauzy layers of tulle with pink roses sewn in were Rocha’s strongest moment, as the entire room seemingly held their phones up to capture any image of they walked by.

Accessories in recent years have become a favorite among fans of Rocha’s brand and this season did not disappoint. She debuted a new addition to her series of whimsical Perspex bags. You can find them in the shapes of an egg, star, heart, and now, a three-tiered buttercream adorned wedding cake. Another debut, which made waves on social media, was her partnership with Crocs. The show featured flat, platform, and laced versions of the plastic clogs, all covered in her signature gems and pearls, which were instantly all over social media within hours of the finale. For Rocha, these subtle reinventions seem to be just the thing to keep fans new and old alike happily buzzing.
