TEN BEAUTY: CRIMSON PEAK

Whether your idea of transformative beauty is a sybaritic massage, a stop-them-in-their-tracks perfume, or a lip color that changes with the light, there will be something to thrill you this spring. Plus, we’ve got flower-powered skincare, the ‘it’ eyeshadow shade, and nail treatments that are not to be missed.

Red Flower turns 25.

When former Shiseido creative director Yael Alkalay launched Red Flower 25 years ago, her goal was to create a transcendently fragrant natural beauty line that could elevate everyday rituals and imbue them with rich meaning. If you’ve ever smoothed the indulgent Arctic Berry Cloud Milk Cream onto your skin or burned one of the brand’s petal-topped candles, you know how resoundingly well she succeeded.

To mark Red Flower’s quarter- century anniversary, Alkalay has introduced a selection of new delights to its range, including an Amber Wood Aromatherapeutic Body Oil, a neroli and lavender-scented energy-shifting Dream Mist, and Aromatherapeutic Bath Bubbles, which—in a feat of formulation few natural brands have managed to achieve—are sulfate-free, skin-nurturing, and make for a very satisfying soak. There will also be some treats in store for guests at Tribeca’s Greenwich Hotel, where Red Flower amenities have long been stocked in the rooms and used in treatments in its Japanese-inspired Shibui Spa.

The new products include a travel mist that dispels nausea (necessary in Manhattan Ubers) and a divinely scented Night Flower Butter Balm, which can be used on anything from split ends to chapped lips. Not lucky enough to be checking in to the Greenwich for a night of restorative repose? Alkalay isn’t one to gatekeep: selected amenities will also be available on Red Flower’s site. “From the very beginning, the purpose of Red Flower has been to create something meaningful and lasting,” says Alkalay. “Celebrating 25 years is both a milestone and a grain of sand; it’s significant in the world of beauty to be small and mighty, and still independent among the giants.”
