Ten Looks: DIOR SS26

SUBVERSIVE SARTORIALISM

Menswear is Jonathan Anderson’s bread and butter. Back in 2008, when he founded his namesake label, it was body-baring button-downs and silky slacks that took to the runway. Fast forward to today and it’s this boundary-pushing approach that bagged him one of the most prestigious jobs in fashion—Dior’s creative director. It was apt, therefore, that his debut for the house was during the menswear season. In hallmark Anderson fashion, the looks jimmied tradition apart, restitching it with a delightfully odd flair. Opting to invert classic tropes, the Irish designer took silhouettes like the Bar jacket and gave them a preppy makeover. Now cut from Donegal tweed, these pieces spoke to a broader theme. Flipping formality on its head, Anderson paired patterned capes and 18th-century waistcoats with frayed jeans and relaxed, knitted sweaters. Loosely laced sneakers were coupled with equally loose-fitting pinstripe shirts, while pops of coral or mint evoked an eclecticism well trodden in Anderson’s portfolio. Messenger bags gave the offering a boyish quality and totes sporting the covers of books like Dracula and In Cold Blood nodded once more to historic inspirations. It was a tale of classics, told with cheek and swagger, that demanded you pay attention.
