The debut collection from the brand’s new Chief Artistic Officer Nathalie Verdeille does not disappoint.
If Ariel saw the shiny aquatic inspired treasures in Tiffany and Co.’s latest high jewelry collection called The Blue Book: Out of the Blue, she’d probably have sold her voice to get her hands on them. Inspired by the beauty of the underwater world, the eye-catching pieces were made in honor of Jean Schlumberger, a jewelry designer who became the brand’s Vice President, and his imaginative work.
The Blue Book, first published in 1845, was the very first direct mail catalog to bring fine jewelry directly to doorsteps. Today, it’s become a way to showcase Tiffany & Co.’s finest and newest creations as inspired by the beauty of the natural world. This year also marks the debut collection by Nathalie Verdeille, the brand’s new Chief Artistic Officer. With 70 pieces debuting this summer, and 67 coming this fall, it marks their largest Blue Book collection ever.
Divided into seven themes: Shell, Coral, Jellyfish, Pisces, Starfish, Sea Star, and Star Urchin, the collection highlights the wonders of the deep sea complete with a color palette in shades of deep blue, turquoise, and pink. Highlights include a shell inspired pendant opens to showcase a massive 21 carat black opal while another piece mimics coral, albeit made with sparkling diamonds with a center featuring a Sri Lankan sapphire or rare yellow diamond. One of the largest pieces, the showstopper, is a necklace which has a sea star embedded between black opals, aquamarines, beryls, and tourmalines.
Schlumberger’s work is known for whimsical creations inspired by a fascination with the underwater world and to honor him, the collection draws from his prior designs. For example his 1902 Medusa necklace, a beautiful piece with iridescent opals and garnets that mimic the graceful jellyfish has become jellyfish-inspired rings, earrings, and necklaces with sapphire, moonstones, and 18k yellow gold tentacles. “These creations have a distinct Schlumberger quality and personality to them, but the designs are all new,” said Verdeille via the press release. “We are certain that he would have been as pleased with each masterpiece as we are.”
The Blue Book 2023: Out of the Blue will debut this summer at the Landmark flagship on Fifth Avenue.
