Versace: Ready-To-Wear SS24

Donatella Versace does daywear don’t you know. Granted, it’s got oomph but Donatella doesn’t see the point of quiet luxury. Her little Sixties shift dresses, silky printed co-ords, boxy jackets and cute shorts suits came in an array of pastels and were invariably worn with matching bags, high-heeled loafers or thigh boots. Donatella said she wanted it to look “joyful and sharp”, but for all her sass, Donatella always roots her collections in the house’s tradition for incredible cut and construction – much of this collection was inspired by Gianni’s AW 1995 collection, a pastel-coloured extravaganza which predated Barbie-core by thirty years and encapsulated the supermodel mania of the era.

The show segued from day to night with an ode to chainmail – the ultimate Versace material. Chainmail vests were worn with jeans and colourful chainmail party dresses added a youthful pop to the show. But an iconic Versace fabric deserves an iconic Versace muse. Donatella drew on Claudia Schiffer who closed the show in a lace and chainmail gown which combined all the craft and pizazz of the brand.
