Who doesn’t love a pop star-fashion crossover? Gucci has released a sustainable iteration of its iconic Horsebit 1955 bag in collaboration with environmental activist and pop princess, Billie Eilish. Crafting the accessory in Demetra – an animal-free fabric made from 75 per cent raw materials – the drop reaffirms the Italian house’s commitment to contemporary innovation and sustained quality. Intent on integrating circular practices into its collections, the brand has made a notable donation to the non-profit Support+Feed, an organisation focused on addressing food insecurity and the climate crisis by implementing a plant-based food system.
The American singer has cemented her status as a pioneer of style with a slew of Gucci-fied looks, be it her neon green get-up at the 2020 Grammys to the vintage-inspired frock she donned at last year’s Met Gala. On her Happier Than Ever world tour, her active efforts to reduce her and her team’s carbon footprint meant 8.8 million gallons of water was saved.
For the bag, it’s not just the materiality that has been reimagined, a fresh coat of paint has also been applied to the Horsebit’s design. Now sporting an asymmetrical silhouette, the design has been in the works since 2021, developed by Gucci’s Italy-based artisans.
To see the bag in action, New York-based photographer Tyrell Hampton captured Eilish with her new trusty sidekick chilling in the studio and riding in the back of a pick-up truck. All in the day of a global pop phenomenon.
