Matthew M. Williams is exiting Givenchy after three years at the helm of the Parian house.
Appointed creative director during the pandemic in June 2020, Williams will officially leave the house on January 1, 2024. According to WWD, the designer is set to focus his efforts on his own label 1017 Alyx 9SM, which has recently joined a new partnership with Hong Kong-based entrepreneur, Adrian Cheng.
In the coming days, Givenchy is set to unveil Williams’s men’s and women’s pre-fall 2024 collections, his last for the house. There has been no announcement of his replacement yet.
In a statement, Williams said: “Leading the creative direction of Givenchy was, as I said upon my arrival in 2020, the dream of a lifetime. Over these three years, I have strived to perpetuate Mr. Hubert de Givenchy’s legacy while bringing my own creative vision and I would like to sincerely thank the studio, Renaud de Lesquen, and LVMH for this incredible opportunity.”
