Av Vattev: Menswear SS25

For SS25, London-based designer Antonio Vattev used his eponymous brand, Av Vattev, as a platform to explore the beauty that can be found in the crooks and crannies of underground club culture. Drawing inspiration from the crossover of music and street style from the ‘70s and ‘90s especially, the 25-look collection was aptly named Loud. Using photographer Jim Jocoy’s images of the punk fashions that populated the USA’s West Coast at the time as a primary source of inspiration, the offering reflects a chaotic spirit with a high fashion finish.

Infusing more traditional silhouettes with an assortment of pleats, layers and folds, an air of grit and grunge steamed off each considered look. Wearable, staple pieces like boxy cardigans and dark wash jeans were given a subtle edge through criss-cross details. Hot pants and the frequent use of leather and satin made the collection feel sexy, emulating a uniform that one could don for a street strut that makes passersby gawk in equal parts adoration, disgust and awe. The accessories were a hit, with Vattev incorporating ’70s-like skinny scarves into the looks to evoke an energy of poised confidence. Belts were studded and bags were slouchy, encouraging customers to embrace an ethos of desirably effortless yet immaculate cool. It was another successful display of Vattev’s wonderful ability to modernise vintage themes with his signature drop of rebellion.
