They hosted a luncheon and a dinner in support of emerging and established filmmakers.
Chanel and the Tribeca Film Festival have had a long history of working to support filmmakers, especially those that identify as women and non-binary. Their 19-year partnership has provided guidance and subsidy for both upcoming and established creatives alike. This year is no different, with the brand celebrating this partnership with two different events, taking place in New York City. Filled to the brim with big names, the luncheon and dinner were a highlight of the week.
On Friday, June 7th, the brand hosted a star-studded luncheon in honor of Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program. Rosenthal, reflecting on the program’s remarkable 10-year legacy, honored its role in empowering emerging talents and amplifying diverse narratives in the film industry. With 100 filmmakers supported, and the development of 40 short movies, Through Her Lens has been a beacon of support for many creatives. Advisory Committee member Kerry Washington expressed her admiration for extraordinary director, and long-time collaborator Numa Perrier, stating via the press release “It occurred to me just two days ago that she came out of this program.”
You might have been lucky enough to catch premieres of these films at festivals such as TIFF and Sundance, with the program providing one group with full financial coverage for their film. Aspiring filmmakers eager to join this transformative journey can now submit their projects for the 2024 program, with the highly anticipated workshop set to unfold in September 2024.
As a follow-up, on Monday evening Chanel hosted a dinner at The Odeon in New York City, honoring the creators that had donated diverse ranges of artwork to the festival. Gracing the dinner were the likes of Robert De Niro, Blake Lively, Jude Law, Lily Allen, Trevor Noah, and Mark Ronson, to name a few. Chanel, with their commitment to advocacy and support for the Artist Awards Program, highlighted how fundamental a role art has played within the development of their own brand, and the importance of intersectionality within creative fields. The 2024 art collection will be displayed throughout the festival, situated in the Tribeca Festival Hub.
