Dubbed “The essence of the night”, this season Emporio Armani pressed ahead with a strong focus on the brand’s signatures, “purified to the core and seen through the filter of moonlight,” said the show notes. Inky hues were de rigueur, while silhouettes took on a fluid dialogue – designed to dress wearers from day into night.
Globe-trotting adventures to both China and North Africa defined this season’s key pieces, including wrap-around suit jackets, sleeveless tunics and trousers cut loose and baggy. Liquid-silk shirts that scooped low to the navel walked alongside sheer blouses, harnessed, utilitarian-style hoodies, and webby knits that sprouted with florals.
The show was bookended with the announcement that Mr. Armani has designed the national Italian kit for next year’s Olympic and Paralympic games in Paris. A group of athletes joined the designer as he took his final bow, each carrying the Italian flag and sporting Emporio Armani tracksuits plastered with ‘Italia’ on the chest, met with a wave of celebratory cheers from the audience.
