The pieces represent a departure from Pierre Hardy’s prior work for the brand.
Nothing says Hermès quite like a sense of humor and whimsy, namely through color and pattern. It makes sense, then, for Pierre Hardy, the brand’s creative director of fine jewelry and haute bijouterie, that his latest collection is titled Portraits de la Couleur. Featuring bright hues and geometric shapes. Hardy transforms the expected into the unexpected through the use of colorful stones and intricate settings. Imagine: a square-shaped ruby ring, wave-like gradient necklaces, color-blocked brooches, and more.
The collection is loosely organized into themes that play into the arty concept. Fresh Paint, as the name implies, gives the impression that Hardy is painting with stones. The pieces hone in on volume and motion, almost giving it a textured-like feeling as if you created a splash of pigment, albeit made with gems. For the next chapter, Arc en couleurs, the rainbow bracelets and necklaces appear to be molded to the shape of the body. A third, entitled Hermès Diaprés, consists of a ring, bracelet, and necklace set against a base of mother-of-pearl. Sparkly and light, they bring to mind stained glass windows.
In Supracolor, it’s all about hypnosis. The necklace captures the illusion of light waves, going from black to white, with all of the shades that make up the spectrum in between. To round it out, Color Vibes, Color Flash, Color Trip, and Color Icons all play with the idea of juxtaposition. Color Vibes centers around an emerald cut stone, with Hardy creating curved gradients — as if the piece had melted into a rainbow of hues while Color Flash is more linear and block-like. And perhaps nothing is more classic Hermès than the Color Icons section, which turns familiar motifs like the horse bangle and Birkin bag into multi-colored one-of-a-kind works of art. Expect these to be the true collector’s items.
