H&M Brings Back Stella McCartney

20-plus years later, the wildly successful collaboration is getting a sequel.

Back in November 2005, H&M launched their designer collaboration with Stella McCartney, following on the heels of their wildly successful collection with Karl Lagerfeld. Starring the likes of Stella’s London bestie, Kate Moss, it was an interesting time in fashion. The Swedish retailer was still relatively new to the U.S. — they had just opened its first two West Coast stores that year. And beyond that, high low partnerships between luxury designers and more affordable brands were a rarity. So, to no one’s surprise, there was a frenzy with Stella x H&M selling out within hours.

20 years later, we’re treated to a second round of H&M’s collaboration with the British designer. This time, the collection draws on iconic pieces from McCartney archives, both personal and brand, blending nostalgic designs with current signature styles. Key items include a replica of the infamous “Rock Royalty” top, referencing McCartney’s twinning look with Liv Tyler at the 1999 Met Gala — back when the event was more of a free-for-all in terms of dress code — as well as knitted tops featuring the instantly recognizable Falabella chain adorning the neckline. That same chain also shows up on bags, loafers, and jewelry.

The Stella McCartney H&M campaign, shot by Sam Rock in London, stars Renee Rapp, Angelina Kendall and Adwoa Aboah.

Cherries are another theme in the capsule, creating a playful print as seen on a mesh dress and top, a silk scarf, and even as a bag charm. Other favorites include esoteric horse-print T-shirts and hoodies that nod to McCartney’s time at Chloé, elegantly draped silk tops, and sparkling designs perfect for a night out. The accessories collection is equally impressive, featuring six bag styles ranging from mesh totes with the classic circular Stella McCartney logo to smaller shoulder bags.

If you missed the 2005 collection, now’s your chance to experience one of the best-selling collaborations between rock royalty Stella McCartney and H&M. The collection drops on May 7th at 10 am EST online and at select stores.
