All eyes are on Jawara Alleyne. The Fashion East-alum’s profile has sky-rocketed in the last 12 months thanks to some pretty epic celebrity endorsements, with Rihanna even going on to name him as her new favourite designer in an interview. It’s a testament to Alleyne’s immense talent. There’s serious star quality to his design hand. His deft draping ability allows him to envision gorgeous frocks safety-pinned together using multi-coloured layers of fabric. Totally artisanal in his approach, he knots, bends and twists garments into sensual, abstract silhouettes.
Alleyne continued to expand on his design lexicon with an intimate catwalk on the penultimate day of London shows, drawing on his Caribbean heritage and his life growing up on the Cayman Islands for inspiration. Models came in crochet dresses that resembled fishing nets, alongside tie-dyed looks that came with tattered hemlines. Elsewhere, there were nautical striped trousers and double waist-band jeans to round up the offering, completing the designer’s strongest collection to date.
