JW Anderson x UGG Join Forces

Cozy loafers, just in time for fall.

What happens when two of fashion’s favorites come together? They make a baby of course — a JW Anderson x UGG collaboration baby, that is! For the California-based brand, the fashion world is no strange bedfellow — regularly getting cozy with the likes of downtown-cool designers like Eckhaus Latta, Willy Chavarria, Telfar and Collina Strada. For their latest iteration, Anderson came knocking, transforming two of UGG’s most recognizable styles, the Classic Boot and Tasman slippers. These signature silhouettes that recall just-rolled-out-of-bed university days and are beloved by collegiates and city dwellers alike get a bit of structure and polish in the form of a cushy loafer. It’s footwear that says business down below, (comfort) party up top.

The fashion world’s typical raison d’être might be to suffer for the sake of the look, but in this case, business and comfort coalesce in one genre-defying style that says, honey, you really can have it all. Available in three Anderson-esque shades of tangerine orange, chestnut khaki brown and military green, the muted, earthy tones reference the natural world that the brand regularly plays in. Synonymous with the elevated design codes that Anderson is known for, the shoes have a signature contrast-stitching element that serve as a nod to craftsmanship and heritage — while calling back to the same stitching that appears in Anderson’s ready-to-wear line.

Featuring musician Dev Hynes (also known as Blood Orange), the launch campaign titled “Through the Art of Daily Ritual” shot by photography duo (and twins) Zhenya and Tanya Posternak “celebrates the beauty found in simple, quiet, everyday moments.” Given that the collection tagline is “everyday icons, transformed through exceptional design,” much can be said about elevating the ritual of the everyday (UGG footwear) into an artform (JW Anderson craftsmanship).

Following this thread of artistic domesticity, UGG and JW Anderson threw a splashy party in a palatial townhouse in the Bloomsbury neighborhood of London to celebrate the collaboration. Earl Grey martinis were on the menu, as were appearances by UGG ambassador and model Adwoa Aboah, who described the collection as “posh.” “It’s a loafer — slash UGG,” she said with a laugh, “which feels very posh and bougie to me.” It’s fitting then, while wandering through the maze of rooms that the celebration felt like being at a bougie house party — one that married the laid-back, casual comfort of an American heritage brand with the tradition and heritage of a uniquely British one.
