The designs nod to the brand’s history of travel.
Watches aren’t the first accessory that come to mind when you hear Louis Vuitton but the brand is slowly changing that. Following the release of their Tambour style last year, they announced the release of their Escale collection today. An update to the original design, which launched a decade ago, the Escale Cabinet of Wonders is a trilogy of new pieces meant to be worn everyday and for dressier occasions alike. Inspired by Gaston-Louis Vuitton, the third generation patriarch of the founding family as well as the brand’s love of travel, there are four unisex styles. Ranging from pink gold to platinum, they represent the best of the brand’s savoir-faire combined with the tradition of Swiss horology.
For true watch-lovers, it’s all about the details and the Escale collection is full of unique ones. With a time-only, three-hand design, the reimagined timepieces are in a round shape with four horns, to signify the corners of the brand’s trunks. Lugs and studs also allude to the luggage origins. Clocking in at 10mm in thickness and 39mm in diameter, the watches are made with a new LFT023 movement with a 50-hour power reserve while the tip of the seconds hand is shaped to follow the curvature of the dial for great precision. And speaking of those hands, they’re made to resemble finely tapered needles, a callback to Louis Vuitton ateliers. To round it out, an octagonal crown that’s topped with a dome that has the brand’s iconic monogram.
With four styles, two are in rose-gold. One has a blue dial while the other features a silvery dial. Both come with a calf-leather strap that’s inspired by Nomade leather. Designed to age beautifully, it’s meant to be a future heirloom. Another two are made in platinum, with one dial made from meteorite while the other has an onyx center as their high jewelry option. Both will have an engraved serial number, which nods to a similar process that identifies the brand’s trunks. See images of them below.
