Prada plays host at their Broadway store starting this week.
Normally, Prada’s many locations serve as a shopping destination with lines of eager shoppers before it even opens. But the brand has a history of transforming spaces into combination art installation meets boutique, as a testament to their commitment to highlighting cultural moments. They’re back at it again with Prada Reporter, a concept that kicked off in early October at London’s Selfridges. Equal parts photography exhibit as well as a curated selection of clothes and accessories, you’ll be able to check it out in New York City at their Broadway boutique through November 6.
Working with Magnum Photos, Prada plays host to an exhibit called Witness to Nature. Featuring over 200 works that examine the relationship between humanity and nature, it’s organized into four themes. The first, Nature & Metropolis, includes works by Paolo Pellegrin and Trent Parke that highlight the natural environment as well as dreamy, intimate shots taken in cityscapes. Costumes & Cultures showcases Cristina Garcia Rodero’s research into popular festivals as well as Cristina de Middel’s documentary and conceptual photography. The third, Community & Seclusion, takes viewers on a journey ranging from Nanna Heitmann’s photographs of the banks of the Yenisey River in Siberia to Alec Soth’s images of disconnected communities in the United States. And finally, Eternal & Ephemeral consists of Hiroji Kubota’s depictions of mystical Chinese mountain landscapes and Newsha Tavakolian’s work on Iran and the effects of global warming.
As a complement to the floor-to-ceiling panels of photos you’ll also see mannequins which are arranged as if they were taking photos as well as furniture in the shape of camera components. Those browsing the images are also able to shop an exclusive selection of clothes and accessories that riff on what a roaming photographer would wear – namely plenty of layering, pockets, and comfortable silhouettes in shades of black, green, plus a smattering of prints.
Prada Reporter can be seen from now until November 6 at 575 Broadway.
