It may be the dog days of summer, but it’s never too late to dream, or better yet, book a last minute vacation. Escape the sweltering days in St Moritz at Badrutt’s Palace. The grand hotel, with hand carved Alpine furniture and giant chandeliers and its signature green turreted roof, is the ideal perch for a Swiss getaway. Biarritz is France’s answer to California cool, complete with surfers, sand dunes and laid back vibes. Still there are plenty of old world, European touches like the Villa Magnan, an art deco style estate turned small hotel. If you are looking for some last minute la dolce vita, check into La Palma, Capri’s latest glamorous bolthole or go local with a detour to Favignana, a craggy but no less charming island off of Western Sicily.

This summer it’s all about Biarritz, the low key alternative to the French Riviera.
