Ten Things to Talk About: Spring 2024 Fashion

1. HELLO, DALLAS:

CHANEL

They say everything is bigger in Texas and the same applies to Chanel’s latest boutique, opening in Highland Park Village in Dallas this spring. As inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s historic apartment, the space will feature custom woven fabrics and wall finishes, as well as chandeliers by the maison d’art Goossens. The palette of bright pinks, golds, and yellows is finished off with furniture and art curated by longtime collaborator of the house Peter Marino. Not only that but you’ll be able to shop the spring collection and snap up some exclusive pieces.

2. SILKY SMOOTH:

LORO PIANA

Making denim feel like silk is a challenge only Loro Piana could meet. Its aptly named new fabric, Denim Silk, was made by the brand’s artisans in Italy, as well as Japanese experts from Okayama and Hiroshima. Composed of 59% cotton and 41% silk, the textile was used to make dashing trousers and jackets.

3. STAR STYLE:

FERRAGAMO

Back in 1923, Salvatore Ferragamo opened his first store in Hollywood, during an era when celebrity dressing was unheard of. A century later, Ferragamo is honoring its founder’s forward-thinking ways with an exhibit at the brand’s museum in Florence. Titled Salvatore Ferragamo 1898-1960, it has vintage photos, one-of-a-kind shoes, and sketches highlighting his O.G. craftsmanship. Until November 4.

4. SUPERSIZE ME:

BOTTEGA VENETA

After years of teeny handbag dominance, Bottega Veneta is shifting the pendulum back. Its spring/summer 2024 show featured oversized totes and clutches, but the real standouts were the massive duffels slung over models’ shoulders. Called the Sailor, they were inspired by global travel and traditional fisherman’s bags. Made in canvas as well as exotic skins, the carryalls take toting your necessities around to the next level.

5. CLASSIC REVIVAL:

LOUIS VUITTON

For the 90th anniversary of the Alma handbag, Nicolas Ghesquière had the daunting task of reinventing a classic. The result, which debuted on the brand’s spring/summer 2024 runway in Paris, is called the Alma 103, in a nod to the show venue’s Champs-Elysées address. Made from supple leather, this is a slouchy version of the much-loved ladylike accessory.

6. CROC ROCKS:

SIMONE ROCHA

Forget Simone Rocha making us want to adorn everything with ribbons—now we want to attach pearls and rhinestones to our Crocs. The designer debuted her collaboration with the footwear brand in September, sparking a viral hit before the shoes could be purchased. Rocha has reimagined three sparkly and delightfully clunky styles, including one with built-in embellished socks. Expect them to sell out when they hit stores in April.

7. SMALL COMFORTS:

MIU MIU

Leave it to Miu Miu to cheekily embrace blistered and bloodied feet, a common affliction after a fashion month filled with painful shoes. The models were sent down the runway in sensible flat sandals accessorized with colorful Band-Aids on their toes and heels, making a convincing case for stylish comfort.

8. GET COZY:

LOEWE

How do you make a sweater surreal? Jonathan Anderson did it by creating exaggerated armless crocheted knits with oversized gold buttons. The snug, sack- like pieces were paired with jeans. It’s an excellent look for anyone who simply wants to roll out of bed to face the day.

9. LIGHTEN UP:

GIORGIO ARMANI

No one does elegant minimalism quite like Giorgio Armani, and for spring, the label is offering an exclusive capsule collection for its American clientele. The range of 47 pieces consists of white and silver designs with touches of turquoise. Standouts include an ivory silk crepe one-shoulder dress as well as a paillette- encrusted crop top and matching mini. As the temps rise, you’ll want to don these looks for springy special occasions.

10. BUONA NOTTE:

GUCCI

At his debut show for Gucci, Sabato De Sarno was intent on combining the brand’s storied past with the present. Such is the case with his take on the famed Jackie Notte bag. The style reintroduces a hook closure inspired by the first Jackie, created in 1958. We’ve got our eye on the Ancora cherry red leather version: It’s sure to be the hot-ticket item of the season.
