Tiffany & Co. Reimagines Holly Golightly For 2023

The presentation paired high jewelry with Givenchy Haute Couture gowns.

High jewelry has always been the subject of fashion fantasies, with diamonds the size of robin’s eggs, elaborate necklaces covered in glittering gems, and the like being the norm. So why wouldn’t it be showcased in an equally fantastical way? For Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Book 2023: Out of the Blue presentation, the brand went all in, staging a runway presentation in their newly revamped flagship, Landmark on Fifth Avenue. As Natalia Vodianova descended the spiral staircase inside, clad in a black gown and dripping in diamonds with her hair swept up in a stylized version of Holly Golight’s bouffant, it was evident that the brand was imagining Breakfast at Tiffany for a new generation of customers.

The event was to celebrate and mark the continuation of Tiffany & Co.’s Chief Artistic Officer of Jewelry and High Jewelry Nathalie Verdeille’s first Blue Book collection for the brand. Featuring elaborate pieces draped across the necks, arms, and ears of the models, the jewels paid homage to Jean Schlumberger’s marine-inspired pieces. There are six themes: Shell, Coral, Pisces, Star Urchin, Starfish, and the latest addition, Sea Anemone.

To complete the cinematic vision, the models were clad in Givenchy Haute Couture looks, marking the first time the two have worked together since the 1960s. Consisting of fifteen looks that modernized archival silhouettes, the gowns were inspired by Hubert de Givenchy’s creation for his muses. Another five wore more modern creations, plucked straight from the Givenchy fall-winter 2023 runway collection by Creative Director Matthew M. Williams, lending an air of modernity to the event.

Navigating nostalgia can be tricky but the combination of the two luxury brands manage to pull it off successfully, courtesy of the styling. While the first few looks directly referenced the movie, it quickly segued into modern red carpet glamor like in the case of a tailored black jacket worn over a sheer skirt accented with dangling earrings, an enormous glittering necklace, and lapel pin. Another model clad in a silver slip gown displayed a tattoo that spanned her back, a fresh juxtaposition against the diamond pieces strewn across her body.

While there may have been plenty of pieces shown during New York fashion week, this presentation served as a precursor to the unveiling of the full collection this October in Shanghai, China. It’ll be interesting to see what spectacular direction Tiffany & Co. takes, if this is just a taste.
