A Kate Moss Fanzine, Bottega Veneta Style

Designer Matthieu Blazy dives deep into his teen years.

When you hear the word “zine”, a scrappy, lo-fi printout that’s been hastily assembled is likely what comes to mind. But in the hands of Bottega Veneta and its creative director Matthieu Blazy, it turns into a limited edition boxed set, combining the best of the brand’s imagery with mementos from Blazy’s teen years. Available in limited quantities at stores worldwide, the three volume set features photos from the brand’s Summer 23 collection as well as Gaetano Pesce’s creations. But the real draw are Blazy’s collages and curated images in honor of his long standing adoration of Kate Moss — fitting since she did wear one of the most memorable looks from the show, namely the leather pants masquerading as denim.

“Kate Moss was my first Google search. She’s the first photo to be printed on the family printer. She became a personal icon. It was, for me, a very serious teenage activity that became an everyday term at home. If I was doing my ‘Kate Moss’, it meant I was in the middle of collecting pictures,” Blazy said via the press release. Not only does the volume contain his favorite images of Moss including her now iconic Calvin Klein era as well as her runway turns for the likes of Chanel, there are also scribbles and scrawls — mementos of a teen who, at the time, could only dream about being in the same room as the model. For any fashion fan flipping through Blazy’s teen collection of scraps is nostalgic and extremely relatable. After all, who among us didn’t spend our adolescent years teaching ourselves the ins-and-outs of the industry by obsessively poring over magazine spreads and runway looks?
