Vaquera: Ready-To-Wear SS25

Vaquera’s SS25 offering was a celebration of its subversive roots. Celebrating 10 years since it was founded by former stylist Patric DiCaprio and vintage enthusiast Bryn Taubensee, the 35-look collection charted the designer’s disappointment with fashion’s declining commitment to freewheeling creativity since the ’80s and ’90s. With this distinct shifting focus onto wearability, the New York-based brand maintained it’s commitment to using fashion as a means of self-expression. Embracing themes of American sportswear, the pieces also displayed a futuristic flair, taking shape in the form of flying saucer-shaped puff-ball skirts, oversized glasses and extravagant silhouettes.

The showcase debuted a new collaboration with Japanese sneaker brand Onitsuka Tiger. With models donning the custom sneaker, based on the shoe label’s classic ‘Mexico 66’ style, the words ‘Love’ and ‘Rage’ were embroidered onto the tongue, representing key tenets of Vaquera’s free-spirited ethos. Alongside the sneakers, the first Vaquera shoe collection was debuted, featuring knee-scraping leather books and a kitten-heeled pump.

It was evidently a season of firsts, with the brand’s first jewellery pieces appearing in the form of a collab with Paris-based accessories brand D’heygere, known for its whimsical, unserious style.

A collection spattered with new ventures, this season marked a refreshed route for the growth of the Vaquera brand whilst staying true to its core essence.
