10 BEST DRESSED AT THE 79TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

The Cannes film festival comes to a close today, capping off a 10-day marathon of fashion moments.

While the films compete for top honors, we’ve had our eyes on the fashion race unfolding on the red carpet. From Cannes regulars like Bella Hadid and Kristen Stewart to standout style star Ruth Negga, these are the 10 looks we couldn’t stop thinking about.

  1. Chloé Zhao stuns in Schiaparelli

Chloé Zhao, director of Hamnet and a member of this year’s jury, delivered one of the festival’s most unexpected style runs. The standout was a surreal Schiaparelli haute couture “blowfish” gown that took the Cannes dress code to deep-sea fantasy territory. Bold, sculptural, and unmistakably Schiaparelli, it was impossible to ignore.

2. Kristen Stewart rebels in Chanel

Who could forget Kristen Stewart kicking off her heels on the Cannes red carpet in 2018? This year, she doubled down on rebellious elegance by pairing Converse sneakers with a crochet look from Chanel. The dress itself felt refined and effortless, while the sneakers gave the entire look a sense of ease—and Stewart the confidence to truly own it.

3. Malgosia Bela and Pawel Pawlikowski win for hottest duo

Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski arrived at the premiere of his award-winning film Fatherland alongside his wife, supermodel Małgosia Bela, instantly becoming the best-dressed couple on the carpet. Bela wore a sleek black Tom Ford ensemble with unmistakable Catwoman energy, while Pawlikowski kept it classic in a tuxedo and Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

4. Bella Hadid references icons in Schiaparelli

No one does Cannes quite like Bella Hadid. Though she delivered several unforgettable looks this year, her white lace Schiaparelli gown stood above the rest. The look subtly referenced Jane Birkin’s iconic Saint-Tropez style, nodding not only to a fashion legend but to the glamour of the French Riviera itself.

5. Ruth Negga is dapper in Ami Paris

As both actress and jury member, Ruth Negga quietly established herself as one of the festival’s strongest dressers. Across appearances in looks by Celine, Prada, and Dior, Negga radiated modernity and strength. Our favorite was a custom suit by AMI Paris—sharp and fearless.

6. Tilda Swinton goes all red in Chanel

There are few pairings more dependable than Tilda Swinton and Chanel at Cannes. This year, Swinton chose a dramatic red drop-waist gown that mirrored the carpet while contrasting beautifully with her sculpted platinum hair. Ethereal as ever, Swinton is like an extraterrestrial angel walking on earth, blessing us with Chanel.

7. Renate Reinsve has skin in the game wearing Louis Vuitton

Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, star of Sentimental Value, never shies away from a fashion risk. This year, she arrived in a daring Louis Vuitton look featuring a cape-like top slit open at the front, revealing shimmering silver trousers and a sharply sculpted silhouette beneath. Modern, dramatic, and refreshing.

8. Isabelle Huppert follows Demna in Gucci

French cinema icon Isabelle Huppert continues to prove that personal style only gets better with time. The french actress has been a loyal follower of Demna, first championing Balenciaga and now embracing Gucci. For the Women in Motion Awards during Cannes, Huppert paired an oversized white Oxford shirt with a sharply tailored violet skirt and oversized sunglasses—balancing timeless elegance with contemporary edge. When we grow up, we want to be Isabelle Huppert.

9. Alexa Chung floats in Dior

Few people embody the term It girl quite like Alexa Chung. Her ongoing collaboration with Dior continues to deliver, and Cannes was no exception. Following a standout Met Gala appearance, Chung arrived in a balloon-shaped, drop-waist Dior Haute Couture gown whose airy silhouette and delicate fabrics gave her the aura of a timeless Hollywood starlet.

10. Cate Blanchett drips in Givenchy

Cate Blanchett never misses an opportunity to embrace drama on the red carpet. This year, she stunned in an embroidered backless gown by Givenchy under the direction of Sarah Burton. Dripping in fringe and adorned in florals, the award-winning actress bridges vintage and modern.
