If the last two weeks are any indication, it’s Ralph Lauren’s world and we’re lucky to live in it. From outfitting one of the buzziest US Open to date to (unofficially) kicking off New York fashion week, the brand has momentum that shows no sign of stopping. And the spring 2027 runway presentation is a testament to the fact. Set back at Jack Shainman Gallery, a favorite location, and featuring a front row that included the likes of Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki, and Ella Hunt to name a few, it was as always glamorous and American sportswear at its best.
Opening with a white corset and trousers, the collection centered on a predominantly navy and white palette with pops of floral and brocade. Young and fresh, Lauren still remembers his roots, even if the archival references received a distinctly 2027 remix. Case in point: a brocade vest worn with a full-sleeved shirt and jeans accented with a wide necktie was an homage to the accessory that launched Lauren’s career nearly sixty years ago. Two suits, built in an Italian menswear facility, nodded to the first one he ever designed for women. Tailoring, as a whole, was a recurring theme, with some leaning sharp and structured while others were softer and more fluid, though no less intricate like a smocked leather jacket. Seersucker, the perennial preppy favorite, made an appearance as well.
Skirts also received the same craft-centered approach, with one featuring gesso-painted thread while another had coated sequins. But if there was a true focal point for the collection, that would be the pants, with most voluminous in dimension. Some were low slung and accented with side buttons, made to be worn with fitted jackets and vests, or even a t-shirt that was boned and laced like a corset.
Evening flair was also seen throughout in both conventional and unconventional ways like a denim jacket that was accented with features — not quite your typical red carpet fare but also, not inconceivable either. On the more traditional side there were fluid wrap dresses, a sequin number worn over pants, billowing gowns with daring low cut backs, and a velvet robe over a white blouse and painted jeans. Everything was a little twisted, casual, and offered the idea that a woman with personality still is at top mind for Lauren. And perhaps he put it best at the top of the show notes. “Spring 2027 is an irreverent take on romance that creates a new elegance. It’s about ways of dressing that celebrate ingenuity, originality, and character—the freedom and fun of creating a style that is truly personal.”
