A New Exhibition Shines a Light on Daniel Brush

Van Cleef & Arpels shows four decades of the late artist’s work in Paris.

Supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, L’École School of Jewelry Arts in Paris presents Daniel Brush, the Art of Line and Light, an expansive show about the late multidisciplinary artist.

Alongside his large scale paintings and sculptures, Brush is best known for his jewelry. The artist had a fascination with gold, and taught himself the art of goldsmithing. What started with making the wedding ring for his wife became a deep passion for creating jewelry as art. Reflecting on his body of work, the exhibition asks if jewelry needs to be worn, or if it can be treasured as art.

Curated by his wife, Olivia Brush, and jewelry historian Vivienne Becker, the presented works span four decades, showcasing a collection of 75 paintings, sculptures, objects, and jewels, some of which have never left the U.S. or even been shown before. Brush was a scholar as well as an avid collector of ancient obscure objects and machines, his insatiable curiosity reflected in this show.

Some of the highlights include Maze, a handheld object created in steel and pure gold, inspired by Byzantine mosaics. Orb is an object of contemplation, sculpted in steel inlaid with gold. La Ménagerie Magnétique is a collection of whimsical animal and bird brooches, hand-carved from bakelite-type plastics and set with diamonds and precious gems. One of our favorites is the collection Poppies, Tendrils, Flowing and Virgin Circles, delicately sculpted flowers in steel and aluminum and inlaid with diamonds, creating a beautiful juxtaposition between hard industrial materials and soft natural shapes.

The exhibition will run from June 8th to October 4th, 2026, in Paris.
