Loewe Celebrates 10 Years Of The Puzzle Bag

The brand launches 19 re-editions plus an entirely new design to celebrate the anniversary.

If Loewe is known for one thing, it’d be their unique handbags. From the Flamenco, to the Squeeze to the Hammock, each has become instantly recognizable for its distinctive silhouette. But arguably the most unmistakable of them all is the Puzzle bag. Designed by Jonathan Anderson, the geometrically shaped shoulder style formally launched on the spring summer 2015 runway and became the indisputable “It bag” that defined the late 2010s. Inspired by origami with a design that looks as if it could be folded like the paper, in the years since it’s come in a veritable rainbow of hues and patterns in the years courtesy of an array of techniques ranging from applique to embroidery to cross-stitching. The result? The Puzzle has been covered in polka dots, given a Western makeover, and even featured a Studio Ghibli character or two. Now, in honor of its 10th anniversary comes the release of 19 re-editions of some of the brand’s favorite iterations over the years along with a brand new version. Each is finished with a limited-edition metal plaque, suede lining and two balloon charms. Should you prefer to decorate your existing bag instead of getting a new one , the Puzzle 10 collection also includes Puzz Charms, playful handcrafted characters each inspired by a re-edition.

An anniversary this big also calls for celebratory events, both in person and online. The site will feature a digital experience that offers a history lesson on the Puzzle bag as well interactive features. Two exhibitions will be showcased at Genesis Art Gallery in Beijing and Dopeness Art Lab in Taipei, while Bergdorf Goodman in New York and Harrods in London will have a dedicated pop-up with custom displays. For those wanting to dive deeper into the making of the bag, the brand’s artisans will travel to selected destinations to demonstrate the detailed construction techniques. And finally should you simply want to shop and don’t happen to be near the pop-ups, Loewe locations in NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago and South Coast Plaza will also be carrying the collection from May 29th onwards.

To get you excited, here are some of our favorite Re-Editions:

The Anime Re-Edition, originally inspired by a trip to Japan, stands out with its hyperreality print, Manga character and space-travel inspired motifs.

Reflecting on the vibrancy and boldness of Loewe’s home country Spain, the multicolor Re-Edition is a pop-art version of the bag, featuring the primary shades of red, yellow and blue against purple and orange panels.

The Cloud Re-Edition is an ode to surrealism, with its floating cloud print seamlessly laid over the geometric shapes.

As a celebration of Paula’s Ibiza’s first Puzzle bag iteration, the Parrot Re-Edition brings us back to the joyous spirit of Loewe’s capsule collections.

In honor of the designer and artist William Morris, this Puzzle bag was designed with a genius blend of nature illustrations and punk details.

The Cowboy Re-Edition nods to Americana culture with its contrasting leather in white, black and denim, layered to resemble the motif Western boots — Very Cowboy Carter appropriate.

The Pixel Re-Edition first premiered on the runway in 2023, which was inspired by retro gaming and digital graphics. Notice the blown up pixels that give the illusion of real-life glitches.

In the spirit of celebration, the Confetti bag has been created exclusively for the anniversary. Inspired by Lisa Favaretto’s confetti cube installation, the bag is embroidered with thousands of laminated leather confetti, forming a multicoloured melange of joyful hues.
