What a triumph. Casablanca’s chocker SS24 offering was a sunset-soaked cruise through beachwear and bodysuits inspired by the spirit of Nigeria. Sourcing its vibrant sunset colours from the rich tapestry of communities spattered across parts of the Saharan region, Day of Victory (as founder and creative director Charaf Tajer called it) presented sheer knitwear, beaded vests and heart-shaped bikini tops to reflect the magnetism of African culture.
An effortless transition from day to night, Cuban collars, double breasted jackets and a club-ready finale look welcomed guests into the suave vision of a Casablanca-coated night. Tajer reimagined traditionally influenced prints by dousing them in effervescent shades that were equal parts rich and citrusy. Staying consistent with its design staples, the label threw in some similarly hued tennis-focused prints, with cropped racing jackets and denim two-pieces promoting athleticism and grit. An icon of West African music, Fela Kuti was also offered a nod, with his son Seun donning look 33.
Detailing bolstered the character-driven feel of the show. Dark, brick-like sunnies and racing helmets made models look tough, while rare but welcome injections of crazy coloured hair felt bold and expressive. Towels and beach bags were nestled into sides or swung by ankles, clearing up any confusion for the attire’s intended backdrop. Zesty and distinct, Casablanca’s summer is sizzling from dawn to dusk.
