LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
It was clear as soon as the models started walking down the runway in leather-jacket minidresses, bandeaus teamed with pencil skirts adorned with supersized bows at the hip, and full-length mesh gowns that Givenchy’s new creative director, Sarah Burton, had come to play. Nearly every piece in her debut collection for the sto- ried French house was a masterclass in tailoring, espe- cially the highly covetable suits where the seams were on full display and the jackets were hyper-accented at the waist. Flowing pastel gowns, pleated high at the neck, were made from the softest leather. The playful elements—pointed bras, flat shoes, the miniest of minis —paired perfectly with the elegant high notes (belted gowns, tailored coats, tulle overlays). These graceful clothes are meant to be seen, not just sit in boxes. Nod- ding approvingly from the front row were women who understood the power of fashion, namely Gwendoline Christie, Ryan Destiny, Yseult, and Raye.
