CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER
If there’s anything that Demna knows how to do and do well, it’s make a dramatic entrance. To herald in his new post as the artistic director of Gucci, he enlisted Los Angeles–based fine art photographer and educator Catherine Opie to shoot his first lookbook for the brand. With her distinctive sociopolitical eye, she documented top models such as Mariacarla Boscono and Lila Moss as members of La Famiglia, each embodying classic Italian tropes in definitive House of Gucci style. In the debut look, Incazzata (“the furious one”), Boscono channels 1960s Italian drama in a scarlet peacoat. Mia Armstrong is La Drama Queen in a feathered gown and winged eyeliner. Moss, meanwhile, dishes attitude as La Ragazza (“the girl”) in a black turtleneck, leather mini, and unapologetically high-heeled boots. If you’re lucky, you’ll be invited to the Principessa’s (Penelope Ternes, wearing a pink, feathered gown) fabulous soirée at one of her palazzos.
Like he has always done in his career, Demna is approaching his first chapter at Gucci with wit, elegance, and a dash of disruption. This fabulous lineup is here for it, and so are we.
