It consists of three themes: symmetry, geometric splendor, and blooming nature.
For fans of over-the-top jewels, May is a glorious month that starts with the Met Gala before segueing to the Cannes Film Festival, and now it ends with high jewelry presentations. For Gucci’s latest foray into the world of one-of-a-kind baubles, the brand conceptualized the line as a unique tribute to Italian gardens. Titled Labiriniti, the name is derived from the word for labyrinths and describes a journey that leads the viewer winding around mazes only to discover a stunning array of jewels. Divided into three themes: symmetry and ordered beauty, geometric splendor, and blooming nature, the intention is to unite both rational and emotional elements — what Gucci deems a true expression of human emotions. With 140 unique pieces, it’s an ambitious array of colorful gemstones that highlight the brand’s artisanal expertise.
In the symmetry and ordered beauty section, the brand showcases Giardini all’italiana or Italian-style gardens, through a selection of carefully chosen gemstones. Take, for example, a statement cuff that includes a 5.93-carat Colombian emerald that’s set against a linear pattern of pavé diamonds to subtly evoke the House’s G signature. Another play on symmetries sees a nearly 57-carat green tourmaline paired with 11 additional tourmalines for a hefty necklace that’s a guaranteed showstopper while a 30.57-carat pear-shaped tourmaline rubellite takes center stage on a bracelet that’s meant to evoke a floral bouquet. To round out the section, a necklace with a chain that has a discreet G logo also includes a 28.07-carat spinel plus tourmaline rubellite beads and pear-cut tsavorites — elegant and most definitely eye-catching.
Gucci’s reference to mazes is most evident in the geometric beauty section, with pieces that bring to mind linear pathways. One necklace includes a 53.25-carat lagoon tourmaline that’s paired with a 19.68-carat Ethiopian opal that’s framed with garnets and opals in a linear design. Another stunning design centers around an ultra-rare 20.45 carat Paraiba tourmaline that’s set with yellow sapphires and a white gold diamond pavé chain that recalls the house’s G motif. For those who prefer earrings, there are a pair of diamond kite-shape stunners that perfectly match a coordinating bracelet and necklace.
The most overt references to the garden motif can be seen in the blooming nature section, which includes dragonfly brooches made out of emeralds, tanzanites, Paraiba tourmalines, and white diamonds. The insect is also transformed into a pair of mismatched earrings made with pink spinels, emeralds, and white diamonds. Also in this section is the star of the show: a necklace centered around a 113.35-carat tourmaline that’s free from inclusions and can be worn in multiple ways. Words don’t do these pieces justice, so see them in the gallery below.
